Waiting on Wednesday (#46): The Rising by Kelley Armstrong

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's eagerly anticipated release is:

The Rising (Darkness Rising #3)
by Kelley Armstrong
Expected publication: April 9th 2013 by HarperCollins
Things are getting desperate for Maya and her friends. Hunted by the powerful St. Clouds and now a rival Cabal as well, they're quickly running out of places to hide. And with the whole world thinking they died in a helicopter crash, it's not like they can just go to the authorities for help.

All they have is the name and number of someone who might be able to give them a few answers. Answers to why they're so valuable, and why their supernatural powers are getting more and more out of control.

But Maya is unprepared for the truths that await her. And now, like it or not, she'll have to face down some demons from her past if she ever hopes to move on with her life. Because Maya can't keep running forever.

Old secrets are revealed and unexpected characters make a surprising return in this stunning conclusion to Kelley Armstrong's New York Times bestselling Darkness Rising trilogy.

SWOON Thursday (#36): Spell Bound by Kelley Armstrong

 Hosted by YA Bound

From the book you’re currently reading, or one you just finished, tell us what made you SWOON. What got your heart pounding, your skin tingling, and your stomach fluttering. Shout it out on Twitter with the hashtag #YABound, post it here in the comments, or grab the adorable button above and share it on your blog! We want to know :-)

Here's mine:

Adam rose. He looked as bad as Jeremy--clothes filthy and ripped, face battered and bloody--and I'd never seen such a beautiful sight in my life.

"I'm not going until I find--" Adam saw me and stopped.

He blinked. His mouth opened. For a second, nothing came out. Then, "Savannah?"

"Hey," I called. "Miss me?"

He pulled from Jeremy's grasp and crossed the rubble in a few steps. His arms went around me and he pulled me close and then...he kissed me.

When I imagined this moment, I always saw it coming. He would lean toward me, and I'd see his mouth moving toward mine, and I'd wait for it. But this...? There was no waiting. No warning. He was hugging me, and then he was kissing me and it was...perfect. There's no other way to describe it. A perfect moment. A perfect kiss. Everything I ever imagined. Everything I ever wanted.

Teaser Tuesday (#37): Spell Bound by Kelley Armstrong

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My Teaser:

There was a dampness to the air I associated with basements. Underground then?  The hard floor--likely concrete--suggested I was right. That made it tough. When I'd been held captive before, it'd been underground, and I remembered the hellish time Elena had getting out. It had been so difficult that she'd had to return for me later, with Paige and the others.

I shoved down the flare of panic. This wasn't the same situation. There were no "cells" here. Probably no other captives. Just me. Special. As always.

My Teaser:

I looked down at my hand. It was...wrong. Misshapen. My fingers were thick, my nails almost like claws. There was hair on the back of my hand. Thick tawny hairs. As I stared at it, my hip started to throb again.

Kelley Armstrong's BITTEN Headed to Canadian TV

Here's the basic information:

− Based on the novels by bestselling Canadian author
Kelley Armstrong −

− Series ordered from No Equal Entertainment, Hoodwink Entertainment and Entertainment One −

− Kelley Armstrong to appear as part of a SPACE panel at Fan Expo Canada™ this Sunday −

And here's some from the press release from Bell Media:

Toronto, ON (August 23, 2012) – Bell Media’s SPACE announced today at the start of Fan Expo Canada™ that it has ordered the new original scripted drama series BITTEN from Vancouver’s No Equal Entertainment and Hoodwink Entertainment, and Toronto’s Entertainment One (eOne).

Based on the best-selling Women of the Otherworld novels by Canadian author Kelley Armstrong, thirteen episodes of the one-hour drama have been ordered, with production set to begin in Toronto next spring. Armstrong, and Executive Producer, J.B. Sugar, will be onsite at Fan Expo Canada™ this weekend, appearing on a SPACE panel on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. ET (Room 715) to discuss her novels and the new SPACE series.

Set in Toronto and upper New York State, BITTEN follows the adventures of 28-year-old Elena Michaels, the world’s only female werewolf. An orphan, Elena thought she finally found her “happily ever after” with her new love Clayton, until her life changed forever. With one small bite, the normal life she craved was taken away and she was left to survive life with the Pack.

Seeking refuge in Toronto, Elena constructs the façade of a normal life, working as a photographer and dating a new man. But when bodies turn up in the backwoods of Stonehaven, the rural mansion that has served as a werewolf sanctuary for generations, and the Pack is threatened by an unknown predator, they turn to Elena for help. Caught between two worlds and two loves, Elena returns to Stonehaven out of duty, but once back in the fold she realizes that when push comes to shove, like any true alpha female, she’ll stop at nothing to defend her family – including putting her own life on the line.

An erotically charged thriller, BITTEN examines the age-old battle between man and beast as human and inhuman forces come to a head in one small town and within one woman’s body.

Some words from the author and those working on the show:

“This sexy new series is the perfect mix of suspense, action and heart, with compelling storylines and a really strong female lead,” said Corrie Coe, Senior Vice-President, Independent Production, Bell Media. “We’re very excited to work with No Equal Entertainment, Hoodwink Entertainment, and eOne to bring this best-selling novel series to the screen.”

“I could not be more thrilled about this. A writer always hopes her stories will live on after the last word is written, and now Elena's will, finding fresh life in a new form,” said Armstrong.

“Kelley Armstrong’s novels contain a rich world, compelling characters, and a deep mythology from which to build a dynamic television series,” said J.B. Sugar, Executive Producer/Director, No Equal Entertainment. “Together with Hoodwink Entertainment, eOne, and Bell Media, I look forward to producing a long-running series with world-wide appeal.”

“The excitement around BITTEN is infectious,” said Margaret O'Brien, eOne Television's President, Canada & COO. “Kelley Armstrong’s characters have found a home with readers and are sure to resonate with TV viewers. We’re thrilled to be working for the first time with No Equal Entertainment and Hoodwink Entertainment on the next big hit for our supportive SAVING HOPE broadcast partners.”

SWOON Thursday (#26): Haunted by Kelley Armstrong

Hosted by YA Bound

Shout it out on Twitter with the hashtag #YABound, post it here in the comments, or grab the adorable button above and share it on your blog! We want to know :-)

Here's mine:

I leaned forward and pressed my lips against his, closing my eyes as the warmth of his skin chased away the last niggling bits of cold from that place. I put my hands to his cheeks as I kissed him and the heat radiated through, as soothing as Trsiel's healing touch, maybe more.

He wrapped his hands in my hair and kissed me back, and I tasted my own fear mingled with his, knew how worried, how frightened he'd been for me. How many times in my life would I have given anything for this, to come home after something awful and have someone there waiting for me. To have Kris there.

My Teaser:

I tore my gaze away from Brandon and his prey. Sick bastard. No animal would do something like that. As I thought this, something clicked in my brain, a piece falling into place so hard the resonance made me jump. The room went suddenly silent, the drumming in my ears drowning out the crowd, giving me one moment of perfect clarity amidst the chaos.
