It’s their chance to change the nation, to give voice to a people silenced for too long.

But as June realizes this Elector is nothing like his father, she’s haunted by the choice ahead. What if Anden is a new beginning? What if revolution must be more than loss and vengence, anger and blood—what if the Patriots are wrong?

FBF Book Spotlight: Shattered Dreams & Broken Illusions by Ellie James

Shattered Dreams (Midnight Dragonfly #1)
by Ellie James
Published December 6th 2011 by St. Martin's Griffin

Sixteen-year-old Trinity Monsour wants nothing more than to live a normal life. But that isn’t as easy as it seems. Trinity is different. She is special. She sees visions, and for those she’s seen, it’s already too late.
Trinity arrives on her aunt’s doorstep in New Orleans with virtually no knowledge of her mysterious heritage. She begins settling into life at a new school and even starts making friends. But all too quickly her dreams accelerate; twisted, terrifying visions of a girl locked in a dark room. And when the head cheerleader, Jessica, goes missing, Trinity knows she has no choice but to step forward with what she’s seen.
But people believe that Trinity has information about Jessica’s disappearance not because of a dream, but because she is involved. She is kind-of dating Jessica’s ex-boyfriend, Chase, and Jessica did pull a nasty prank on Trinity. Revenge seems like the likeliest scenario.

Nothing prepares Trinity for the dark odyssey that ensues while searching for Jessica, including the surprising romance she finds with Chase, or the shocking truths she learns, not just about the girl who has gone missing, but the past that has been hidden from her.

Broken Illusions (Midnight Dragonfly #2)
by Ellie James
Published May 8th 2012 by St. Martin's Griffin

It’s almost Mardi Gras, but for 16 year-old psychic Trinity Monsour this is no time for celebration. Another girl is missing. Tormented
by visions she doesn’t understand—of an empty street lined by crumbling old buildings, a terrified voice warning her to be careful, and a body lying motionless in the grass, Trinity embarks upon a dark odyssey she could never have imagined. She’ll stop at nothing to better understand her abilities, convinced that doing so is the only way she can make sure the terrifying images she sees never actually happen.

But it seems everyone wants to stop her. Her aunt is worried Trinity might discover secrets best left in the past. Her best friend, Victoria, is afraid Trinity is slipping away, her boyfriend, Chase, fears she’s taking too many chances, and the lead detective will barely let her out of his sight. Only one person stands by her side, and in doing so, he slips deeper and deeper into her heart and her dreams—blurring the lines of reality and illusion.

When the dust settles, one of them will be dead.

Annie, a high-powered East Coast transplant, longs for a baby, yet her online search for a sperm donor is not as easy—or anonymous—as she anticipates. And Claudia, tired of her husband’s obsession with Facebook, finds herself irresistibly drawn to a handsome co-worker. FBF Book Spotlight: Beauty Queens by Libba Bray

Beauty Queens
by Libba Bray
Published May 24th 2011 by Scholastic Press

Survival. Of the fittest.

The fifty contestants in the Miss Teen Dream Pageant thought this was going to be a fun trip to the beach, where they could parade in their state-appropriate costumes and compete in front of the cameras. But sadly, their airplane had another idea, crashing on a desert island and leaving the survivors stranded with little food, little water, and practically no eyeliner.

What’s a beauty queen to do? Continue to practice for the talent portion of the program—or wrestle snakes to the ground? Get a perfect tan—or learn to run wild? And what should happen when sexy pirates show up?

Welcome to the heart of non-exfoliated darkness. Your tour guide? None other than Libba Bray, the hilarious, sensational Printz Award-winning author of A Great and Terrible Beauty and Going Bovine. The result is a novel that will make you laugh, make you think, and make you never see beauty the same way again.

Hainted Love (The Ghost Handlers, #2)
by Maureen Hardegree
Published March 21st 2011 by Bell Bridge Books

What's a girl to do when her first-ever summer romance turns out to be . . . a little ghostly?
For Heather Tildy, life doesn't get much better than watching cute boys ride skimboards during her family's summer vacation at the Georgia shore. Yes, she still has her problems: she's a hypersensitive "ghost handler," a soon-to-be ninth grader with a bullying older sister, and the number-one lovesick fan of gorgeous lifeguard Drew Blanton. But she's living in a ghost-free zone for the moment, and that's great.

Until she wakes up with a handsome teen ghost in her bed.

Jack thinks he's still alive, so he's convinced he's the one who's found her in his bed. He drowned while he and his family were living at this very rented beach house, sleeping in the same room that Heather now occupies.

So much for a fun time at the beach.

Heather is now in charge of this cute, stubborn ghost-guy who doesn't believe that only Heather and her ghost-psychic Aunt Geneva can see and hear him. Just like the last time she got stuck with a wayward ghost, Heather has to dodge trouble and play detective. Jack needs proof that he's dead. How can she find the evidence he needs in order to move along with his life, er, death?

And will she ever forget his oh-so-real kiss?

Book Spotlight: Nicholas: The Fantastic Origin of Santa Claus by Cody W. Urban

Nicholas: The Fantastic Origin of Santa Claus
by Cody W. Urban
Published September 1st 2011 by Booklocker.com, Incorporated

Did you know Nicholas of Myra lived in a time of Roman oppressive turmoil and persecution? Did you know he is counted as patron saint of sailors and archers as well as children? When his faith was outlawed and his people afflicted, Nicholas boldly stood against the tyranny in such a way that I call him "the Batman of 300AD." After a betrayal, this average Roman soldier finds himself left for dead, floating in the ice-cold Danube River to the far north of Rome. If not for the aid of a clandestine race of Earth-bound Angels, known as Elves by the Scandinavians, Nicholas would have been a name long forgotten. After uncovering the truth behind his betrayal, and of the stolen love back home in Lycia, Nicholas leaves the Realm and travels with the Nordic sailors, honing his skills as a warrior, and ventures home on a path for revenge. His quest takes him to discover a far more sinister plot and brewing darkness in his homeland-one that plagues upon the innocence of youth-and the rushing river of destiny sweeps Nicholas upon a grand adventure culminating in the fulfillment of his destiny; to be the saint we now know as Santa Claus. Nicholas: The Fantastic Origin of Santa Claus written by Cody W Urban is the thrilling exploration into the legends and myths behind numerous Christmas traditions, from the Norse Yuletide to the Roman Sol Invictus, and a ride down the torrents of fate as a reluctant young man steps into the immortal shoes of the patron saint of children.
