My Teaser:

What happened next was a kind of blur. One minute we were standing by the curb, clutching our trick-or-treat candy--and the next minute, this monstrous creature had scooped us up under his arms and shoved us into the back of his van. Candy spilled from our abandoned, overturned buckets, making a colorful stream in the snow.

My Teaser:

Instinctively, I opened my mouth to scream, but his large hands were around my throat, prohibiting any sound and air flow. I gasped and clawed at the air, the space between us. Given our differences in size and strength, it wouldn't have mattered even if I hadn't been bound to the radiator. I understand now that it was only seconds, but during that time when the lack of air was so painful the tears fell from my eyes, I saw my lifetime--I saw Mom, Dad, Robbie, and oddly enough, Charlie.

Cover Reveal/Teaser Tuesday (#43): The Avery Shaw Experiment by Kelly Oram (Giveaway)

THE AVERY SHAW EXPERIMENT by Kelly Oram
Young Adult Contemporary
Release Date: May 2013

When Avery Shaw’s heart is shattered by her life-long best friend, she chooses to deal with it the only way she knows how—scientifically.

The state science fair is coming up and Avery decides to use her broken heart as the topic of her experiment. She’s going to find the cure. By forcing herself to experience the seven stages of grief through a series of social tests, she believes she will be able to get over Aiden Kennedy and make herself ready to love again. But she can’t do this experiment alone, and her partner (ex partner!) is the one who broke her heart.

Avery finds the solution to her troubles in the form of Aiden’s older brother Grayson. The gorgeous womanizer is about to be kicked off the school basketball team for failing physics. He’s in need of a good tutor and some serious extra credit. But when Avery recruits the lovable Grayson to be her “objective outside observer,” she gets a whole lot more than she bargained for, because Grayson has a theory of his own: Avery doesn’t need to grieve. She needs to live. And if there’s one thing Grayson Kennedy is good at, it’s living life to the fullest.

Goodreads Link:

Teaser One - Avery
Grayson finally noticed Aiden and I on the couch. “What are you two dorks doing?”

“Learning about steroids,” I said cheerfully. “You should probably know that using them can cause acne, testicular atrophy, decreased sperm count, prostate enlargement and gynecomastia.”

Grayson looked rightfully appalled. “Gyneco-what-ia?”

“Enlarged breasts in men,” Aiden translated. “So you should lay off the juice before you have to start borrowing Avery’s bras.”

I gasped at the mention of my underwear and whacked Aiden’s shoulder hard.

Behind me, Grayson laughed. I knew he was about to deliver a comeback, but I refused to look at him. Seconds later his breath was warm on my neck. He whispered just low enough that his mother couldn’t hear what he said. “I like my bras colorful and lacey, Aves. Not sure your collection would do it for me.”

Total mortification. Grayson may be as close as family to me, but he was still one of the hottest, most popular guys in our whole school. Him discussing my bras in that low sexy voice that could stop a girl’s heart on the spot made my lungs constrict. Plus, he was right of course. My bras were all of the plain white cotton variety.

Teaser Two - Grayson
I started to leave the room but she stopped me at the door. “Grayson?” Her tone tugged at something inside me. “You really want to take me with you tonight?”

She sounded so small and unsure of herself. It was how she always sounded at school and around strangers, but never when she was at home with us. I think my brother had really broken her. I was seriously going to have to beat him sometime.

“You don’t have to if you don’t want to. I know I really freaked out on you earlier, but I promise I’ll be fine. Aiden’s right.” She swallowed back a lump in her throat. “I’ll manage without him somehow.”

“Aiden’s a tool. You can learn how to manage tomorrow. Tonight’s New Years Eve and for once in your life you’re going to spend it without Aiden or The Discovery Channel.

I knew I was making progress when she cracked a smile and asked, “What about Whootylicious in 7 B?”

I thought of the luscious booty I’d originally planned on seeing tonight and sighed. “That will be an unfortunate loss, but, like you, I will just have to deal.”

I winked and then decided I’d give her ten minutes before I came back and physically dragged her out of bed.

My Teaser:

The psychic lady speaks again, stopping me cold. "Don't run away, Alex Kosmitoras." She must've spoken to Mom earlier today. That must be how she knows my name.

"I'm not running away," I say meekly. "I'm just going back to Sweet Blossoms."

"Don't run away," she repeats--this time she speaks louder and with more energy. "Don't run away from your abilities. They are gifts."

"What?" I ask in confusion. What abilities is she talking about?

"You already know. Watch. Listen. Be open to your gifts."

I turn to face Miss Teak, but find she's already gone, returning to wherever she was before I got there.

Halfway across the marble floor, a voice shattered the silence.

"You're so screwed, Kerrigan." The voice laughed. "I've got your tatù and you've got...well, you've got nothing."

Rae skidded to a halt and froze. Her eyes opened wide, searching the darkness for an enemy.

My Teaser:

That long-dead blue-eyed man is why this American, Hunter, is in my home. Perhaps if I save him, I will not dream of dying blue eyes any longer. Perhaps I will see the living eyes, Hunter's eyes. Not merely sky blue, but the hot, sharp shade of lightning, of the ocean, which I saw once in a trip as a little girl with Mama and Papa to see someone in Beirut. The ocean was rippling and moving and endless and so, so blue, like a field of many sapphires. I see this same shade in Hunter's eyes, and it frightens me. It hurts when he looks at me. His eyes spike through my hard walls and see into the secret softness hiding deep within my soul.

My Teaser:

"You have lovely eyes," she told Griff with a grin. "All four of them."

She heard him laugh, as though from the other end of a long tunnel. "Thank you. Just lie back a bit. There you go."

"You're not going to take advantage of me, are you?" The cushions felt so nice behind her head. It was so nice to lie down. "Novels are always warning young women of the dangers of being taken advantage of by wealthy young men."

"You are perfectly safe. Emily is here to protect your virtue."

"That's too bad." Finley thought she heard Emily chuckle, but it was so far away she couldn't be certain.

"Are you comfortable, Finley?" Griffin asked. He was smiling, she could hear it.

She tried to nod but her head wouldn't move. "Indeed, I am."

My Teaser:

There was a dampness to the air I associated with basements. Underground then?  The hard floor--likely concrete--suggested I was right. That made it tough. When I'd been held captive before, it'd been underground, and I remembered the hellish time Elena had getting out. It had been so difficult that she'd had to return for me later, with Paige and the others.

I shoved down the flare of panic. This wasn't the same situation. There were no "cells" here. Probably no other captives. Just me. Special. As always.
