Superhereos Wear Faded Denim
by Law Reigns

Blissany Cherry is tired of sleeping around. Her neurologists’ sleep solutions have failed her. Now that her bizarre sleeping habits have begun to include week long dreams she has resorted to her own methods for a cure.

METHOD ONE: CONTROL DREAMS. All attempts to morph dreams about a gorgeous warrior into romantic fantasies are thwarted. He keeps on insisting she is destined to marry a great king and lead their armies into war. At the end of every dream he asks her: will you fight the war and save mankind?

She laughs in his face.

METHOD TWO: RESIST! Blissany has plans for her life. None include fighting an intergalactic war.  When her dreams begin spilling over into reality, she is forced to make a decision that will forever redefine her life. Standing between destiny and desire, she is left with only one option.

METHOD THREE: SURVIVE.

About this Author:

Law Reigns has an odd obsession with romance. At the advice of her friends, she gave up the plight of playing cupid in their lives. Developing her own characters to manipulate proved to be more rewarding. After having studied creative writing at the University of Florida, she decided to write Superheroes Wear Faded Denim. A proud Gator alumni, she based  her novel where blood runs orange and blue. She personally invites all adventure druggies and love fanatics to dive into the pages of Faded Denim, a story that transforms a swampy, southern town into a battlefield for life and love.

Why this story:

I wrote this story for three reasons:

1. As a narcoleptic, I wanted to inspire others by writing a story about a character who struggles to overcome sleep. Harriet Tubman’s story inspired me. For those who do not know, she was also a narcoleptic. She most certainly did not let it bother her. Anyone who faces obstacles in life will be inspired by this story of triumph.
2. Telling the story of a young woman who had to undergo a transformation to achieve greatness was important to me. Life will always ask more of us, more than we sometimes even think we can give.

3. I wanted to capture the beauty and culture of my college experience. There are so many different types of people we meet in college. Many stories do not even try to convey this.

EXCERPT:

“I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”

Blissany shivered. Wanikiya was serious. “You’re 18 years old. You can’t know that.”

“I’ve always been very apt at knowing what I want.”

 “You’re three years younger—”

“Two years. I turn nineteen in two weeks.”

“What I’m saying is we’re both too young to want marriage. We haven’t even explored the dating world. There’s so many people, so many experiences, Demi would add so many sexual encounters to be had.”

“Since when have I cared—I didn’t just roll out of bed wanting to do this. I have thought about this for months. We know everything there is to know about each other.”

“We’re friends.”

“It’s rare we even go a day without talking.”

“That’s why you want to marry me. You don’t spend time with other women.”

“Don’t insult my intelligence, Blissany. You are my best friend. I have fallen in love with you over the last 4 years. I want us to be more than friends. I want you to be my own body, my own flesh.”

That was his odd way of saying he wanted to make her his little wife. She swallowed. She could just imagine it. At first he would give her the world, spending thousands of dollars to make her wedding everything that she wanted. Demi would be so jealous. Then when they finally married, she’d be expected to do nothing. Wanikiya would go off to work every day leaving her to achieve her dreams of becoming an artist. He’d buy her gifts like BMWs and trips to Maui, feed her steak dinners, and take her on weekend excursions to Europe. What about sex? She imagined they would have missionary sex which would inevitably become dull after several years of marriage. The allure of the money would wear off as well. Sooner or later Wanikiya would age beyond her level of human understanding. He already had the wisdom of a 70-year-old seer. What would he be like when he was 30? He’d probably start speaking to her in psalms, developing expectations she become a religious leader like him. She’d fail miserably. He would become disappointed with her. She’d want lots of sex. He would think she was a fiend. Soon enough she would be known as that little wife who failed to rise to her husband’s standards. Pictures of her straying off to have love affairs would become viral video blogs.

“Oh God no,” Blissany began in horror. The image was an ulcer festering in her mind. “It wouldn’t work out. I can’t.”

Guest Post by Law Reigns:

Hello wonderful readers of A Bibliophile’s Thoughts on Books.  I am Audrey. Law hired me to conduct all her celebrity interviews and today I am interviewing Apollyon. Starring as the dark lord in the fantasy romance novel Superheroes Wear Faded Denim, I have been told he has a wonderfully evil personality.

Just to give you a brief introduction. Apollyon is 6’6 and is all muscle ladies. He has long black hair perfectly groomed, eyes darker than smoke from a fire, and a face that’ll immediately have you thinking gods of Olympus. Immortal, his life-long pursuit is to destroy mankind, but guess what, ladies? He is in fact “single” and may add you to his entourage of lovers, saving you from being destroyed.

Now I took this interview in my living room. Bookshelves line every inch of my wall. Thick Victorian styled couches stuffed with pillows encircle a coffee table where two cups of hot chocolate sit. While sitting in such an intimate setting, I boldly asked Apollyon:

Given 24 hours all by yourself and money is no object, what would you do:

Are children reading this interview? I jest. Maybe the violin, yet may I remind you, I am lord over an entire realm and never want for money.

What are 3 qualities you look for in a friend:

1. Obedience
2. Intelligence
3. A penchant for fearlessness

What is one lesson a past relationship taught you:
There are so many kinds of relationships, Fair Audrey. Which one do you speak of? Friendship? Friends can be your fiercest enemies, beware of them. Family? They know and have created your vulnerabilities which allow them to take advantage. Your debt to them will be your downfall.  Love? Is it not the purest most beautiful action gifted to all of creation? There is a catch. Nothing can be darker than love. I believe the feeling of love can operate much like the feeling of hate. Such madness can only be insanity, Fairest. Do not allow its sickness to enter your mind.

Now do I shun relationships? Quite the contrary. Genius is wasted on the person who cannot properly function socially.  My only advice is beware.

To Fifty Shades Of Grey or not to Fifty Shades of Grey:

Is that really the question? Although I am an avid fan of ravaging virgins, I am already dark enough. I must pass.

When you choose a restaurant, is the food or the ambiance more important? Why:

Ambiance, because the devil is in the details.

If you had to spend the rest of your life at one age, which would that be? Why:

Would you have me be a Benjamin Button? No, give me both the mental innocence and the physicality of a child. Why not age 7? Mankind believes it’s lucky.

What is the best compliment you have ever received:

The people who I rule over often say, I am the most handsome being of all the three realms to have ever been in existence. Yet I have five brothers who could be said to equal if not surpass my looks. Ideals of physical beauty change from person to person. There does, though, seem to be a truth which unites all of creation. Few will argue the definition of inner beauty. This may surprise you, Fair Audrey, but I used to be tasked with all things concerning love, art, and dreams.

Many will say love is a feeling resulting from the brain’s interpretation of a specific emotion, but that is where confusion steps in and often leads to madness. Albeit, like all other feelings there may be chemical processes which occur in the brain resulting in feelings, I never intended for love to be just a feeling. If one concentrates on love being an action, one can easily discern between love and hate. I used to live my life being the verb love. In that time, the most powerful being of the universe, Nivide, approached me and said my soul shines the most beautiful of all.

You may find this amusing. If you were to ask Nivide today whose soul shows blackest of all, she would say Apollyon.

Now that is the best compliment I have ever received.

If you were to choose the most romantic place for a special dinner, where would it be? What would you like served:

You jest. Fine, in my bedroom, and King Caleb’s wife would be served. To be kind, I would send him an invite to come watch me enjoy my feast.

Who was the best kisser you dated:

    Zenaku.

In what way, or area, do you think women are superior to men:

Women were a creation for mankind. It seems to me, women make up for all of man’s flaws. Neither superior nor inferior, their role is pertinent and was never intended to be that of a man’s.
