Published November 9th 2011 by CreateSpace

Sixteen year old Kaylee Carmichael has had a rough year with the loss of her best friend in a horrible accident. Things don’t get any easier when her family relocates to southern Florida on an old plantation. She doesn’t make friends easily but she doesn’t need them; she has her horses, her family and her memories of Cassie. But when strange things start happening in the house and on the land and everyone (herself included) thinks she’s losing her mind, a friend may be exactly what she needs. That’s what she finds in Zeke.

Zeke is golden and beautiful and everything Kaylee isn’t yet somehow he seems to be sent just for her; maybe even heaven sent.

As the two delve into the mysteries of the plantation and explore the paranormal, Kaylee can’t help falling for him, but Zeke is hiding a dark secret that could change everything. And things only get more complicated when another strange boy comes into the picture and takes a special interest in Kaylee.

What does he seem to know about her that she doesn’t?

One thing is clear, something evil is awry and Kaylee finds herself right in the middle of it. Even so, all she can think of is how she feels about Zeke. Could a boy so perfect love her back?

She doesn’t think so and she has no plans of finding out. When Zeke finally finds out the truth how will he react and how will he tell her what he’s been hiding?

Most importantly, can the two get to the bottom of the evil that has taken hold of the plantation and protect Kaylee and her family from danger or will this love story have a tragic ending?

Blood and Guitars
Book One
By: Heather Jensen

I was living a rock star’s dream and, from the outside looking in, I had everything a guy could wish for. But there was something missing. I had never imagined there was anything better than having thousands of devoted fans scream out my name. That all changed the night I looked into her poison green eyes. - Trey

He shouldn't have been able to make me feel anything, least of all alive. I would be risking everything to be with him. He was human and that was dangerous enough, but for all my moon-given talents, I was powerless against him. - Aurora

When Aurora meets Trey, a famous singer and musician, she’s only hoping to get her fill of human blood for the week. The last thing Aurora expects is for Trey to make her feel alive for the first time since she was, well, alive.

It begins with a casual painting lesson at her art studio, The Waking Moon, and quickly turns into a forbidden romance. Aurora is forced to hide her true identity from Trey, while keeping her relationship with the human a secret from other vampires in her Brood. Trey’s band is recording a new album and with Aurora as his muse, Trey is writing songs like never before.

After being hired by their record label to paint the cover of the new album, Aurora has a legitimate reason for spending so much time with Trey and his band mates. Aurora can’t deny the unexpected connection she has with Trey, which is fueled by glimpses into his emotions every time they share a kiss.

Caught between two worlds, Aurora must attend celebrity award shows and vampire rituals, find time to feed, and protect Trey from the dangers of the night, all while preserving her secrets.

Excerpt Blood and Guitars:

The clock on the wall in the loft of The Waking Moon read ten after midnight. I was standing at the easel, a brush in my hand, while Trey worked out a new song on his acoustic guitar. He sat on the floor with his back against the half-wall while his voice echoed around the loft.

“I lie awake
These sleepless nights can last forever
I try to take you in.

“I can’t believe …
You’re in my arms- and here with me
I pinch myself again.

“Cause I know … it’s worth it
You’re worth- whatever it takes
To make you stay.

“And I’ll show … you over and over
Every day- as long as you’ll stay
With me….”

I’d been painting him for half an hour, although of course, he had no idea that’s what I was doing. He just looked so incredible sitting there barefoot in his jeans and t-shirt, cradling his guitar, that I couldn’t help myself. The song was getting to me, too. It was poetic, the way words flowed from him effortlessly. Who knew I was a sucker for musicians? I’d already finished painting Trey, capturing every aspect of him from the carefree spirit in his azure eyes to the fashionably worn holes in his jeans. As I switched to a silver metallic paint to work on the details of Trey’s instrument, I struggled to shake off memories of the night before.
After hours of playing Guitar Hero two nights ago, I’d spent all day yesterday sleeping and had gone hunting after dark. Finding someone to feed from had been the easy part, but when I got close enough to get a good look at his face, I’d been surprised to discover that he had a remarkable resemblance to Trey. It wasn’t as if I’d thought it was Trey at any point. I could definitely tell the difference. But the similarities were shocking. He’d had hair just like Trey’s, and his eyes … they were the same crystal clear blue. Instead of using whatever lie of a story I had in my mind to distract him like I’d planned, I’d found myself staring at him in astonishment until he was asking if I was okay. In the end I’d mumbled something about how he might consider a career as a celebrity impersonator as I walked away.
Not exactly the ending I’d had in mind. I’d gone out for drinks with Mark afterward, trying to forget about the incident. He’d known something was bothering me, but I hadn’t explained myself and he’d been smart enough not to push the issue.
Even if Mark had been clued in to just how much time I’d been spending with Trey, which he wasn’t, I could never have explained what was running through my mind. It wasn’t the lack of feeding that was bothering me. It was the fact that I’d been so repulsed by the idea of feeding from someone who could have been Trey’s double. I’d clearly been in denial about my feelings for Trey. I just hadn’t expected those feelings to manifest in a way that would literally stop me in my tracks and cost me a meal.
The vampire in me could point out with ease all of the logical reasons why I should never see Trey again. He was only human, after all. What did he really have to offer me? The answer to that was simple, if I looked deep enough.
Freedom.
Trey was all of the things I liked to pretend I was, but could never be again. Admittedly I was getting good at going through the motions of being free spirited and adventurous but in my moonlit reality I felt trapped. A spirit like Trey’s was something I’d admired as a human, envied even. I’d tried to live like that myself, never quite managing to do it. Aden had been the free spirited one. I’d loved that about him, too.  As an immortal creature, I’d hoped to finally grasp the independence I’d always strived for. I’d made the age-old mistake many of my kind make, assuming that being free from age and free of death would give me freedom in life. I’d since learned that things didn’t exactly work out that way.
The only taste of that freedom I experienced was with Trey. It was as if his innate ability to live so carefree was contagious and rubbed off on me more and more with each second we spent together. It was a powerful feeling, and not one I was ready to give up.
The blood-laced drinks Mark and I consumed had curbed my appetite but only temporarily. I’d gone out tonight and managed to feed from someone who in no way resembled Trey, or anyone else I know for that matter. One thing was certain; I seriously needed to get a grip.
Trey set his guitar down on the ground and gave an exaggerated old man groan as he got to his feet, stretching his limbs. With a few tiny strokes of a brush I finished adding the metallic paint to the likeness of Trey’s guitar on my canvas. I stepped back to admire my work as Trey sauntered over and stood next to me. I watched his face out of the corner of my eye, anxious to see his reaction.
“Wow,” he said in astonishment. “This is incredible. I didn’t realize what you were – that I was the subject.”
“It was your idea,” I responded.
He stared, open-mouthed at the painting. “Yeah, but I had no idea you would come up with something like this. You even used the metallic paints. It’s insane!”
“I’m glad you like it,” I said.
“Like it? I can’t wait to show it to the guys,” he professed. “Do you have any others, you know, from the studio?”
I gestured with a hand to my giant sketchpad. Trey picked it up and flipped through the first few pages, taking a few seconds to admire the random drawings I’d done there, including the sketch I’d done of him and O’Shea playing their guitars in the studio. I might have started to worry that he didn’t like it, but the lopsided grin on his face when he glanced up at me was answer enough.
“Let’s show the rest of the guys tomorrow,” he suggested. “Then if they’re on board we can get Wes to take your sketches to the label.”
“If you say so.”
“Definitely,” he added. “Then, I’ll help you sell this on eBay so it doesn’t waste space in here,” he joked.
“And deprive some loyal, pubescent fan of the joy that would come from winning this through your fan club?” I said incredulously. “I don’t think so.”
He took a step forward and smiled again, that half-smile that was so full of boyish charm and sincerity. With all my inhuman advantages, I was still powerless against it. His calloused fingers gently gripped my hand as he pulled my palm to his chest where I felt every beat of his heart. It was a bold move on Trey’s part in ways he couldn’t even understand. I recognized the gesture as one of openness without needing to search his mind. Even though I was aware of the delicious blood pumping through his veins, my mouth didn’t so much as water. I gazed back at him, his blue eyes blazing, and I had to resist the intense urge not to look away for the ridiculous fear that he’d see right through me. See the wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Then his lips were on mine and I lost myself, overwhelmed by the surge of Trey’s emotions as they flooded through me. I kissed him back wanting to forget my fear of being discovered, of putting him in danger, and focus only on how good it felt being in his arms. After all, relinquishing some control was a sacrifice worth making if it meant I could continue to live in this fantasy with Trey. But the dreaded tingling in my teeth started up again and I reluctantly pulled away. Trey closed his eyes and let out a slow breath, resting his forehead against mine. It was obvious he was trying to be patient with me.
“Trey, I…” I wanted to apologize but what could I say? I’m sorry but I’m afraid my fangs might freak you out. Oh, and by the way, my eyes sort of glow in the dark when I get excited. I hope you’re cool with that?
“It’s okay,” he breathed, resting his hand on mine over his heart. I wondered how long he would put up with me pulling away like this. It was selfish of me and dangerous for us both, but I wasn’t willing to give him up. I didn’t want to lose him, or the effect he had on my spirit. It was time to accept the truth. I was falling in love with Trey.

Guest Post by Heather Jensen:

Stuck In An Elevator With A Vampire
by Heather Jensen

First of all, I’m honored to be a guest here at A Bibliophile’s Thought’s On Books today. When I was brainstorming about ideas for my guest post, I thought it might be fun to explore what it would be like to be stuck in an elevator with one of my characters from Blood And Guitars. Blood And Guitars is the first in a series that explores the relationship between a vampire named Aurora who meets Trey, the front man in a rock band, while looking for her next meal. Rather than feed on Trey, Aurora takes the time to get to know him and finds that she’s falling in love with the famous human.
If someone had asked me which character I’d most like to be stuck in an elevator with, the most obvious answer might be Trey. He’s young, hot, famous, plays guitar and can sing like nobody’s business. But as I thought more about my answer, I realized that the character I’d most like to be stuck with is Aurora, assuming that she’s had her fill of human blood for the week, of course.
After I got over the initial shock of being in an elevator with a vampire, and pushing all of the elevator buttons in succession about a hundred times, I’d settle in for the long wait and pass the time with all the things I want to ask her about. For one, it can’t be easy being a vampire and selling paintings to humans for a living. Where does she find inspiration to paint? And she’s not just any vampire, but an exceptionally powerful one for her age. There are expectations that come with that, and not just from her maker and the other vampires in her brood. After picking her brain about all things vampire and art related, I’d settle in for the real fun.
What is it like to date a rock star? And not just a guy in a band who travels around in a van with his friends selling their CD’s in parking lots, but a real rock star with platinum records under his belt and sold-out venues full of screaming fans. I’m a big music fan, and going to concerts is one of my favorite things to do. I just can’t imagine what it would be like to be a part of something like that.
You see, I imagine my conversation with Aurora would be an enlightening one. Yes, Trey could sing away the time in the elevator, or perhaps even play his guitar for me if he happened to have it, but only Aurora could fill me in on the real juicy details.
Now that I’ve shared which character I’d most like to be stuck in an elevator with, which character from a novel would you most like to share your time in a broken elevator with? Leave your answers in thcomments for a fun discussion!

With my words, all of his resistance melted. He hungrily made his way to my lips. His lips covered mine, and I groaned as I gave into him.

Robbie – my Robbie.

I loved the feeling of his hands on my back. He gently pulled me closer to him. He kissed me harder, yet it wasn’t hard enough. I wanted more. I needed more. Now that I had him, I was going to be selfish.

Suddenly, he stopped kissing me. I instantly missed the warmth of his lips. He slowly backed away. He was breathing just as heavily as I was. It was good to know he was just as affected by that kiss as I was.

Tagline(s): Is her love real or just a myth?

Summary: Returning to her summertime home of Bandit Creek, Callie Jamison discovers there’s a lot more involved to her grandmother’s legacy than a few cabins and some land, including a curse. The last thing she needs now is to fall in love.

Anteros, dark twin of Eros, is responsible for avenging unrequited love, a job that’s been a lot harder since his brother succumbed to ambro-fever and has been running amok shooting all the wrong people – including Anteros.

The clock is ticking, not only on his immortality and Callie’s free will, but their hearts as well. Soon they’ll each have to decide if the overwhelming attraction they feel is the real deal or if they’ve simply been ‘Shafted’ and it’s all a cruel illusion.

Review:

Callista Jamison returns to her childhood summertime home of Bandit Creek, Montana to settle her grandmother's estate and claim the inheritance left to her. But it's not as open and closed as she thought. There are requirements Callista  has to meet and a curse that prevents her from giving her heart to a man, otherwise his life is forfeit. Feeling the heavy burden of the curse, Callista resolves to forgo men for a while. As she's shouting this new resolve to the universe, she hears an injured man behind her.

Anteros, god of Requited Love, was shafted by his brother, Eros (aka Cupid) and dumped in the human world. And it wasn't just any arrow his brother shot him with, but a golden arrow. Anteros's heart will be hopelessly lost to the first woman he lays eyes on, his soul irrevocably tied to hers, which means that when she dies, so does he, effectively revoking his immortality. And the first woman Anteros sets eyes on is a hideous, lumpy-looking human!

Callista and Anteros's meeting was definitely set up, but is the love that they feel for each other real or just an illusion cast by the god of Love?

Shafted is a short, fast-paced story packed with everything we love about paranormal romance. We have the smoking-hot Greek god, Anteros and the beautiful Amazonian heir, Callista, each reluctant to get to close to each other, which creates the best kind of tension. Each also has an obstacle that could come between them--Anteros falling into ambro-fever, and Callista falling victim to her family's curse. Not to mention snoopy B&B owners, meddling families, and interfering ex-boyfriends getting in the way. There's also a great mix of sarcasm and wit that left me laughing to the very last sentence. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope that others love it as much as I did.

EXCERPT FROM SHAFTED:

An obnoxious sound polluted the air, loud enough to make Anteros wince. It took to the count of three to realize the annoyingly repetitive groan was coming from him.

That couldn’t be good.

Had he gotten drunk with Charon again? His brain cells were sluggish coming back online, but didn’t miss the cold cramp of muscles and aching bones currently housing him. Shit, he was probably on the crap end of another of his friend’s oh-so-hilarious practical jokes.

The last one entailed a term of servitude to the Furies before he was able to buy his way out of their lair. Given the nature of his indenture, time with them wasn’t all bad, but that wasn’t the point. No one wanted to piss off a woman created to rip a man’s soul from his still breathing body, let alone three of them, so wiggling his way out of that one had been tricky.

Was he on the banks of the Styxx this time? Why else would he be so cold? It wasn’t like the Underworld had an air conditioning problem or anything. Or worse, had the bastard dumped him on the shores of Acheron, the River of Woe?

A shard of dread lodged in his heart. In either case being a god himself didn’t mean there wouldn’t be Hades to pay – literally – and Anteros already owed his uncle too much after that last ill fated poker game. Contemplating the consequences made his head spin even worse.

A nudge in his ribs interrupted his conjecture, shooting a spike of warning up his spine. It really didn’t matter which of the Underworld Rivers he was languishing beside, anything corporeal enough to touch him was bad news. Here, only the damned, stuck without coin for the Ferryman, had substance. To them anything that might pay their way to the other side, especially some other poor sap’s soul, was fair game.

“Hey? Are you…”

Knowing surprise was his best shot, Anteros snaked his arm out and grabbed the prodding limb before it could drag him into the river. Charon had been his friend longer than either could remember, but if he ever got hold of a soul, there was no way he’d give it back, even Anteros’s.

With a hard yank and a yelp from the thing, he pulled his assailant down and flipped his body. Scissoring his long legs, he trapped the other and pinned it beneath his superior mass. A wave of corresponding vertigo hit before his besotted brain caught up to the lighting fast movement.

Keeping his stomach in check wasn’t easy, but he’d be damned if some soul-sucking vagrant was going to drag his ass into in that disgusting water, especially hung over.

It took as much determination to open his eyes as it did to beat back the lingering nausea, but he clenched his teeth tighter and forced himself to blink away the blurriness. He needed to see what he was up against before the thing regained its equilibrium.

As his vision cleared, shock drove the remaining miasma away. The thing was hideous! Its upper body was bloated and lumpy, and there were stiff mangled strands where its face should be. Though much smaller than him and vaguely human in shape, it had enormous rubbery feet and red blobs instead of hands. Had they been cut off before the thing died?

Worse yet, it was making a pitiful noise, as though screaming with its mouth sewn shut. It was actually kind of pathetic. Deciding the thing wasn’t such a huge threat after all, Anteros began to lift his weight, planning to simply roll it back into the river where it belonged and be done with it.

Before he could get a good hold, the thing jerked violently under him and suddenly every molecule of air in his body evacuated in response to the worst explosion of pain he’d ever experienced in his life. Fireworks shot off, blinding him beneath his puckered eyelids and his breath burst painfully from his insta-paralyzed lungs. His beleaguered stomach filled with acid and his limbs gave out all at once, dropping him to the ground like a stone. Not in all his eons had he felt pain like this. Apparently he wasn’t the only one who could use the element of surprise.

The bastard had canned him!

“What the hell do you think you’re doing? Are you crazy? God I thought you were hurt. I just wanted make sure you were okay and you freaking attack me!”

With the bells of Hades ringing in his ears, it took a minute for Anteros to realize it wasn’t ‘Dead Soul Speak’ wailing at him, but what sounded suspiciously like the annoying screech of a mortal female.

What was a mortal doing here? He must still be drunk. That was it. He’d heard enough Ambrosia could make you think things were real, which must be true because he could swear the apparition fidgeting a few feet away was really there.

“I’m so sorry. Are you going to be okay? I didn’t mean to hurt you, but you caught me off guard when you grabbed me. Scared me, you know?”

Anteros braved another glimpse, cracking one eye open; yup, an ugly one to be sure, but a mortal female nonetheless. She hadn’t come any closer probably to stay out of range should he retaliate. Smart girl, but he could hear the genuine regret and concern in her voice.

“Mister? Hey really, are you going to be okay? Should I call for help? A doctor or something?”

His tongue might as well have been coated in cement for all the good it did him. “In fin, unky dorky. Kint you till? Jus gim me a sick to gatch my bret.”

“Excuse me I didn’t quite get that.”

He flopped over onto his back, hoping his lungs would remember what to do with the first full breath of air they’d gotten in what seemed like an eternity, and cleared his throat to try again. “I’m fine, hunky dory. Can’t you tell? Just give me a second to catch my….”

The last word formed on his lips, but as his eyes focused, he lost track of what he was saying. He was snared by a pair of green eyes fringed in enough frost to stick their edges together, giving them a disturbing mismatched shape. They were peering at him out of a blotchy pink face, complete with a hint of chapped lips, a runny nose and a mess of icicle spiked hair sticking out in every direction like some frozen parody of Medusa.

She was beautiful.

Huh? Where the Hades had that come from? What in the Nine Hells was wrong with him?

As though struck by a God-bolt, his memory came crashing back and with it the truth of how he ended up here.

He hadn’t been drinking with Charon at all. No, he’d been coming in after a particularly painful fix of another of his brother’s careless mistakes…. Suddenly the last piece of the puzzle clicked into place, filling him with an overwhelming sense of dread and anger.

The miserable little shit shafted him! HIS OWN BROTHER!

He’d barely entered his temple home on Olympus when something behind one of the marble columns had caught his eye. He lived alone, and rarely did any care to visit, so he immediately recognized the movement for the threat it was.

He remembered reaching behind his shoulder with one hand and bringing his black titanium bow to bear with the other, but not fast enough. Flickering torchlight caught a golden flash flying straight at – no, through – him. Anger turned to bitterness as the memory played across his mind.

As darkness pulled him under, Eros had emerged from the shadows, still holding his own glistening bow, a triumphant grin on his handsome face. Not a moment later their mother had materialized directly behind him, her face void of emotion, but her words had said it all.

“Perfect shot, my son, you’ve done well.”

He’d been shafted all right. The love of Psyche, Eros’s wife, had proven too much for his brother, causing his fall to ambro-fever, an irreversible condition many gods developed after an overload of what they personified. The result in Eros’s case was him periodically running amok, so drunk on love he couldn’t see, let alone shoot straight, willy-nilly nailing any poor sucker who got in his path.

It had fallen to Anteros as the God of Requited Love to run damage control by canceling out his brother’s diamond-tipped silver arrows with his opposing obsidian-tipped lead ones. Instead of being the final reckoning for those who deliberately preyed on the hearts of others, it became his job to save mortals suddenly in love against their will with people who would never love them in return. Anteros was the only one able to free Eros’s shooting-spree victims but it meant absorbing their heartache as his own to do it.

And what thanks did he get for spending the last several centuries drawing in and carrying the pain of all those hearts? His beloved brother, the one at fault in the first place, shot him - and on their mother’s orders no less! And not with just any arrow either. No, it had to be one of his thrice cursed golden ones. His fate was sealed.

Within twenty-four Olympian hours, roughly one week on earth, his heart would be hopelessly lost to the first creature to cross his path. Anteros’s eyes were involuntarily drawn back to the lumpy-limbed figure in front of him. He could feel the pull starting already. Hades Balls! He’d imprinted on the hideous creature with the rubbery feet and runny nose. A mortal! A groan escaped his pursed lips. Why a mortal and why’d it have to be so damn ugly?

Anteros’ heart bashed up against his chest wall and the last of his fog cleared. Zeus’s beard, they might as well have condemned him to eternal torture in the lowest levels of Tartarus as this.

He was doomed. With the use of a golden arrow, not only was his heart forfeit, his soul would soon be irrevocably tied to hers. When she died, she’d take him with her.

Not only had they ruined his life, they’d killed him by robbing him of his immortality!

Anteros couldn’t decide which was worse, the burning in his heart from the arrow’s path, the hole in it from the enormity of his family’s betrayal, or the fact he would never know a moment’s freedom from the monstrous ice encased mortal currently hopping from one foot to the other screeching like a banshee as she hovered over him.

“Hey Mister? I’m sorry, really. Oh gosh, what can I do? Can I help you up maybe? Do you need a doctor? Or is there someone else I can call?”

The concern in her eyes pulled on his heart strings and, to his horror, other things as well. Stupid arrow was working all right.

“Who are you? Can you tell me your name?”

Uh, tell her his name? Come to think of it, probably not. Hmm, let’s see, how did one explain such things to a mortal?

Hello, I’m a pissed off god who’s been shot with the equivalent of a super love potion slash aphrodisiac by ‘Stupid Cupid’ and you, you lucky thing, are now the target of my every superhuman desire. Something, by the way, that will build in potency to a point I’ll no longer be able to resist and will very likely jump all over you. Which really isn’t working for me because the second I do, the arrow’s magic will pierce you too - lovely little golden bugger that it is - and you’ll fall for me against your will. In turn, my immortality goes up in smoke and I’ll die the second you do.

Oh and since you asked, my name is Anteros, God of Love Returned, Dread Avenger of Unrequited Love, brother of Eros and son of Aphrodite and Ares. Let’s have sex right now. How do you like me so far?

Oh, yeah, that should go over real well.

Summary: In the aftermath of her mother's murder, Paige broke with the elite, ultraconservative American Coven of Witches. Now her goal is to start a new Coven for a new generation. But while Paige pitches her vision to uptight thirty-something witches in business suits, a more urgent matter commands her attention.

Something is murdering the teenage offspring of the underworld's most influential Cabals--a circle of families that makes the mob look like amateurs. And none is more powerful than the Cortez Cabal, a faction Paige is intimately acquainted with. Lucas Cortez, the rebel son and unwilling heir, is none other than her boyfriend. But love isn't blind, and Paige has her eyes wide open as she is drawn into a hunt for an unnatural-born killer. Pitted against shamans, demons, and goons, Paige finds herself in a battle chilling enough to make a wild young woman grow up in a hurry. If she gets the chance.

Review:

It has been four months since the fiasco with Kristof Nast and the fight for custody of Savannah, but Paige Winterbourne's life is anything but back to normal. With her business, private life, and reputation up in smoke, she had to relocate to Portland with her boyfriend, Lucas Cortez, and her ward, Savannah Levine; a place where no one knows her. Though life has moved on, Paige still feels like something is missing, and with each new failed attempt to start a new Coven, that emptiness grows bigger.

But when Lucas's father, Benicio, CEO of the Cortez Cabal, approaches Paige with an incident where a young witch was attacked and is now in a coma, she asks to discuss it with Lucas first. Lucas, knowing that Paige is worried about the girl, suggest checking up on her and seeing if there is anything they can do to help her. What starts as a simple inquiry quickly becomes a full-blown investigation when this attack is linked to a series of murders on teenagers of Cabal employees and families. Paige and Lucas know they are in it for the long run when the killer begins targeting the teens of the immediate families of the Cabal CEOs, and the only teen Cabal child not under 24-hour guard is Paige's ward, Savannah.

To help keep Savannah safe and stop this killer from taking the lives of more children, Paige calls in help from werewolves Elena, Clay and Jeremy; celebrity necromancer Jaime Vegas; and vampires Cassandra and Aaron.

From the gang-ridden streets of Miami to the many levels of the afterlife and back, Paige and Lucas only have so much time to catch the killer before he takes another life.

Out of the two books narrated by Paige so far, Industrial Magic is my favorite. We are thrown into a world terrorized by a killer who is taking his revenge by killing the children of Cabal employees and families. We are introduced to new characters and reunited with old friends. There is just so much excitement, action, mystery, and tension. Industrial Magic is fast-paced and gripping, I couldn't put this book down.

With all the Cabals as the target of the killer; the Nasts, St. Clouds, Boyds, and Cortezes are all in Miami, reluctantly working semi-together, and that's an explosive situation ready to go BOOM! But I really liked one of the young Nasts--Sean doesn't seem like any of the other members of his family. I liked that he wants a relationship with Savannah and that he dislikes how his family is treating his younger half-sister. It shows that maybe there's a better future for the Cabals with heirs like Sean and Lucas.

A great tension breaker that I found completely hilarious was the fountains outside the vampire, John's house. When Paige and Cassandra go there for a visit, they find a couple of fountains on either side of his walkway of a male version of Botticelli's "Birth of Venus." Trust me when I say that their discovery and reaction to the fountains will definitely make you crack a smile, at the very least.

I'm not sure how I'll like the next book, Haunted, which is from Eve's POV, Savannah's mother. We met her in Industrial Magic, and I really liked her, so I hope I like her story as well.

About this Author:

Kelley Armstrong has been telling stories since before she could write. Her earliest written efforts were disastrous. If asked for a story about girls and dolls, hers would invariably feature undead girls and evil dolls, much to her teachers' dismay. All efforts to make her produce "normal" stories failed.

Today, she continues to spin tales of ghosts and demons and werewolves, while safely locked away in her basement writing dungeon. She's the author of the NYT-bestselling "Women of the Otherworld" paranormal suspense series and "Darkest Powers" young adult urban fantasy trilogy, as well as the Nadia Stafford crime series. Armstrong lives in southwestern Ontario with her husband, kids and far too many pets.
