Follow Friday (#9): Buying a Book Based on a Bad Review

Follow Friday is a weekly event hosted by Parajunkee and Alison Can Read--a great way to discover new amazing blogs and new friends!

Q: Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?

Answer: I don't really buy many books since I rarely have the money to, but I've never bought a book because of a bad review. When I'm buying books, I mostly get them because I'm interested in reading them and want to form my own opinion on whether it's good or bad.

  2. I have never bought a book because it had a negative review. If I was interested in a book I would buy it whether it had a bad review or not. I would probably be intrigued by a book though, if it was getting a lot of negativity.

  4. Hm, it's not common, but I have checked out books partly because of a negative review, although I've never purchased one outright. There are some reviewers whose tastes I know well enough that I can figure out whether I might like a book even if they don't, though.

  7. I haven't ever bought a book because of a bad review. I like having money in my bank account. If I bought all the books I'd be broke.

  8. I love your answer! It's pretty rare that I let a review sway me one way or the other - I usually pick up books because they intrigue me in one way or another!

  9. I really like your answer, I normally do the same thing myself. But, there have been a few times, where I have gone ahead and bought a book despite a bad review just because I was curious and wanted to see what the hype was all about. Fortunately, I actually ended up liking the books most of the time.

New follower for sure, love what you've got going on with your blog. :)

  10. I think library loans (or free downloads for that matter) would all count in the spirit of the question :)

Following from FF - sorry it's taken me a while to get round to you! It's my first week joining in, I hope you might have time to visit my FF post.
