EXCERPT:

It was dark, too dark. I whipped around trying to get my bearings, but I could barely see a thing. The only reassurance that I had made it here alive was the sound of my racing heart slamming violently against my chest as I took in the gravity of what I had just done. Clay would never forgive me, but I would not have been able to live with myself if I didn’t at least try. My heartbeat accelerated to an impossible rate, and its drumming echoed through this dark, dingy cavern. I slowly felt along the damp rocks jutting out from both sides as I made my way down the underground corridor. I could see light piercing through up ahead and I instinctively nestled closer to the wall for fear of being spotted. Then from seemingly out of nowhere, he appeared and I flinched, slamming hard into the rock wall. I swallowed down the giant lump in my throat which threatened to morph into a blood-curdling scream when his face materialized in the faint light, those stormy grey eyes, so arrogant. His smooth mouth curled up into a twisted grin as he scanned me. His perfect features always had a way of masking his soulless heart, the man who had destroyed mine. Butterflies punched through my stomach fluttering madly, attempting to warn me to stay away from the figure before me. I retreated deeper into the wall until the sharp rocks cut into my skin. “I have been waiting for you my love,” he purred low and soft, taking a calculated step toward me. My eyes swept frantically over our surroundings as my brain tried desperately to grasp onto a plan of escape, but my thoughts were interrupted by his confident laughter, assuring me that any such plan would be futile. In that moment I knew, tonight I was a dead woman.
